Starting therapy is an important step, and it's natural to have questions. Find answers about getting started, counseling services, Christian counseling, insurance, fees, telehealth, and what you can expect from therapy.
How do I get started?
You've already taken the first step by finding us. To begin, schedule an appointment or contact Providence Counseling. We'll answer your questions, learn more about what brings you to counseling, and help you determine the best next step.
We also offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your goals, explain our counseling approach, and determine whether Providence may be a good fit for your needs.
Reaching out for counseling can feel like a significant step. Our goal is to make the process welcoming, straightforward, and confidential from the beginning.
What makes Providence Counseling different?
Providence Counseling is a Christian counseling practice committed to providing clinically sound, evidence-based care while thoughtfully integrating a biblical worldview. We believe emotional, relational, and spiritual well-being are deeply connected.

While our practice is rooted in the Christian faith, clients from all backgrounds are welcome. Faith integration is approached thoughtfully and with respect for each client's goals and preferences.

What does a Christian therapist do?
A Christian therapist provides professional, evidence-based clinical care while thoughtfully incorporating Christian faith when desired by the client. The goal is to care for the whole person emotionally, relationally, mentally, and spiritually.
Assessment & Evaluation
Clinical interviews and evidence-based assessment tools may be used to understand your concerns, monitor progress, and develop a treatment plan based on your individual needs.
Education & Skill Development
Counseling can help you better understand your symptoms and patterns while developing practical coping skills, healthier relationship strategies, and tools for lasting change.
Processing & Talk Therapy
Sessions provide a confidential environment where you can discuss challenges, process difficult experiences, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and work toward meaningful goals.
Faith Integration
When appropriate and desired, counseling may incorporate biblical principles, Christian worldview, prayer, and spiritual encouragement alongside evidence-based clinical care.
What are the benefits of self-pay?
Some clients choose to pay directly for counseling rather than use insurance because self-pay can provide additional flexibility and allow treatment decisions to remain focused on the client's goals.
- Greater flexibility in treatment and scheduling
- Fewer insurance-related restrictions
- Treatment focused on your individual goals and needs
- Less information shared with an insurance company
Whether you choose insurance or self-pay, we'll help you understand your options before beginning counseling.

If cost is a barrier to beginning therapy, please contact us to discuss whether limited sliding-scale availability may be an option.
What should I expect with telehealth?
Telehealth allows you to meet with your counselor through a secure video platform from a private location in Oklahoma. Before your appointment, you'll receive the information needed to join your session.
For the best experience, we recommend:
- Choosing a private, quiet location where you can speak freely
- Using a reliable internet connection
- Using a device with a working camera and microphone
- Joining a few minutes early to check your audio and video
- Silencing notifications and minimizing distractions
- Remaining in a safe, stationary location rather than participating while driving
Many clients appreciate telehealth because it eliminates travel time and can make counseling easier to fit into work, family, and other responsibilities.
Why might I receive a mental health diagnosis?
A mental health diagnosis is a clinical tool that can help your counselor understand your symptoms, develop an appropriate treatment plan, monitor progress, and communicate with other healthcare professionals when needed.
Insurance Billing
Insurance companies generally require a diagnosable mental health condition before they will reimburse for counseling services. If insurance is used, a diagnosis may therefore be required.
Guiding Treatment
A diagnosis can help organize symptoms into a meaningful clinical picture and guide the selection of evidence-based treatment approaches.
Monitoring Progress
Throughout counseling, symptoms and progress can be reassessed so treatment can be adjusted as your needs change.
A diagnosis does not define who you are. Our focus is on understanding your individual story and helping you move toward meaningful, lasting change.
